The Ranch Events Complex Proposes Bold Amendments to the 2019 Master Plan, Paving the Way for a thriving Future of Entertainment in Larimer County

Loveland, Colorado—Today marks an exciting milestone for Larimer County. Conor McGrath, Managing Director of The Ranch Events Complex, presented groundbreaking amendments to the approved 2019 Master Plan to the Larimer County Board of County Commissioners.

Chair Pro Tem, Commissioner Kristin Stephens, praised the vision behind the updates: “This plan is a thoughtful response to our community’s evolving needs. From youth hockey to convention spaces, these projects will create opportunities for residents and visitors alike. I’m excited to see The Ranch become a beacon for tourism, economic vitality, and community pride.”

The proposed changes outline five dynamic initiatives that will enhance the community and generate significant new revenue for the region.

"This is a pivotal moment for Northern Colorado," said McGrath. "With these proposed upgrades, we are laying the foundation for a vibrant, world-class future. These enhancements will expand The Ranch Events Complex’s ability to host top-tier events, increase opportunities for our community, and meet the evolving needs of residents and visitors alike. We’re positioning The Ranch as a premier tourism destination, and we’re incredibly excited about what’s ahead!"

Below are the key proposed amendments with renderings:

1. Great Lawn Expansion

The Great Lawn Expansion is a game-changer, with three phases slated for completion by July 2027. The project includes relocating current roadways and utilities, upgrading technology, and leveling and developing 14 acres of new event space. A new outdoor amphitheater with a capacity of ~6,500 will be a significant highlight. This expansion will boost the total event space on the Great Lawn to an impressive 20 acres, setting the stage for more substantial, more diverse events than ever before.

2. Elevated Premium Lounge at Blue Arena

Plans for Blue Arena include a Premium Entry Plaza, a new Premium Lounge Terrace, and an Upper Terrace. These upgrades will create a more upscale guest experience and generate additional sponsorship revenue. With an estimated completion date of Q1 2026, this 15,000 sq ft addition will enhance the arena's appeal, ease congestion, and elevate the fan experience to new heights.

3. Wayfinding, Monument Signs & Event Plaza

To improve the overall visitor experience, new wayfinding signage will guide vehicles and pedestrians across the complex while increasing visibility from I-25 and County Road 5. The Event Plaza will be transformed into a functional space of 130,000 sq ft, improving accessibility and creating an inviting area for guests, with a strategic relocation of ADA parking for added convenience.

4. New Convention Center & Conference Hotel

Market research has shown a strong demand for a state-of-the-art 100,000+ sq ft convention center at The Ranch. To accommodate the increased traffic, The Ranch plans to partner with a hotel operator to build a 150-300-room hotel. The projected fiscal impact, including sales, property, and lodging taxes, is estimated to bring in $5-7 million annually, driving economic growth and establishing Larimer County as a significant national player in the convention and hospitality industries.

5. Arena & Youth Hockey Facility

As part of Phase 2, the Pedersen Toyota Center would undergo a transformation into a three-rink practice facility dedicated to youth hockey. The renovation will include locker rooms, a lobby, weight rooms, and a café, offering athletes and families a premier training space. This addition will strengthen Larimer County’s commitment to youth sports and serve as a valuable community asset. “These amendments are about more than economic growth; they reflect our commitment to innovation and inclusion,”Commissioner John Kefalas, Board Chair, emphasized. “The Ranch is a vital part of Larimer County, and these proposed changes will elevate its role as a community anchor, bringing people together and enhancing our quality of life.”

Looking Ahead:

Phase 2 of the Master Plan amendments is set to be completed by 2028, with the Arena and Youth Hockey facility as the final project. Each of these transformative changes offers incredible economic growth opportunities while providing enriching, community-focused experiences for Larimer County residents.

Commissioner Jody Shadduck-McNally highlighted the long-term benefits: “These proposed upgrades will help secure The Ranch’s future as a premier destination in Northern Colorado. They will bring significant economic benefits to our region while ensuring that The Ranch continues to be a welcoming and inclusive space for families, businesses, and visitors worldwide.”

As consultants refine and revise the Master Plan, further updates will be presented to the Larimer County Board of Commissioners for approval.
